The Executive Vice Chairman's Foreword
The year 2020 was an unforgettable year for many of us here at Thome and across the globe because of the many challenges brought about by the coronavirus (“COVID-19”) pandemic. In the ship management industry, the global restrictions on travel and movement made the business environment more challenging.
Despite the challenges faced in 2020, we are pleased to announce that Thome has published our first voluntary Sustainability Report to showcase our sustainability efforts and value creation for our stakeholders. Despite the challenges faced, our efforts and commitment to sustainability have not wavered. We place evermore importance on the safety and development of our people in this dynamically changing situation. We strive to embed sustainability in all aspects of our operations and business conduct.
To this end, I would like to highlight several of our achievements in 2020 that helped to promote group-wide sustainability. In 2020, Thome was praised in the media for our effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic situation which allowed our seafarers to continue operating safely with their well-being prioritised.
We have also clinched several awards which highlighted our excellence in environmental, health and shipping operations. All of these would not have been possible without the close cooperation between internal stakeholders and their emphasis on environmental compliance, people development, strong governance and dedication of our employees and seafarers.
As we enter the post-COVID-19 period and continue to navigate these unprecedented and volatile times, I am confident that we will remain steadfast in our endeavours to sustainable growth. Guided by our core values, we will continue to be a trusted long-term partner delivering maritime services and shape the industry to operate sustainably. I would like to thank everyone for accompanying us in this sustainability journey and hope you will enjoy reading this report. Thank you.
